Road kill, in a sense...

Taken July 21st, 2007.
While out at the movies in Owasso, we heard a noise we figured to be bats. The noise was distinctive to bats, and unmistakable.

We thought nothing more of it.

I awoke the next morning to my four year old sister explaining to me excitedly that there was a bat in my car. Having only a few hours of sleep, I had no idea what she was talking about and could barely comprehend it. She is very imaginative, and watches TV as well, so I fugured she pretended, had a dream or saw something on TV about bats and or cars. I was confused...

I never went outside until I was almost late meeting an old friend in town later that day. As I went to my car, with my little sister at my side, I noticed a brown chunk stuck in between the hood. I apologized to my little sister for not believing her and took a quick picture, and told her I'd take it out and take pictures so she could see a bat (without her being near the death, you know)...

It must have fallen while I was driving on the dirt road. I was too hurried to take care of it then, but I wish I was a bit late, just so I could get a better look at the poor creature.

I love bats, I feel sad that I killed one. I wish I could have one of my very own, as a pet, but this is the closest I've been to one outside of a zoo.

It's such an awful way to go. I never even saw him coming. And I think his wing, even though it's all broken, is beautiful, and my favourite part.
